FAQ

What do I need to take part in speed sailing?

The pleasure sailing speed limits on the various waterways are stipulated by the waterway administrators. Furthermore, special spaces (speed sailing zones) are provided where high speed sailing is permitted during certain periods. Page 37 of this brochure (Dutch pdf) gives a list of these speed sailing zones.

In addition to the matriculation plate, the owner of a high-speed pleasure motor boat must attach an identification mark (the speed number) to both sides of the bow. This mark is the same as that on the matriculation plate (the letter B followed by the number) with characters 20 cm high (light colour on a dark background or vice versa).

You will find information about applying for the speed number under FAQ Where can I obtain the various documents?

Foreign pleasure boats which sail at high speed must carry their national flag and display the letter symbol of their country of origin on the front bow.
