FAQWhen are the engineering works operated in Flanders?Since 1 March 1996, a standard operation ruling has been applied to the operation of locks and swing bridges. Under this standard operation ruling, the operation of engineering works runs in accordance with simple and clearly recognisable timetables. This ruling applies to the entire Flemish waterways network. Operating times of locks and bridges on navigable waterways in Flanders are given in a Dutch brochure (not available in English at present). The Dutch title is ‘Bedieningstijden van sluizen en bruggen op bevaarbare waterwegen in Vlaanderen’ and you can download (pdf 830 Kb) it here. You can find the legend of the brochure here. You can also order it free of charge via our ‘Downloads and publications’ section. The operating times are listed for each waterway. There is a waterways map for most of the waterways showing the engineering works and their dimensions. Any exceptions to the standard operation ruling are also listed. Operations for pleasure sailing on Sundays and public holidays during the summer period are also listed.
