FAQ

 What are the requirements for foreign pleasure boats?

  • Foreign pleasure boats which wish to enter the navigable waterways in the Flemish Region must be in possession of a toll vignette (see FAQ: The toll vignette: for whom is it and where can it be purchased?’).
  • The pilots of foreign pleasure boats which enter Belgium along a waterway must announce their arrival in the first reception offices of the inland shipping routes which they encounter. Whenever these pleasure boats leave Belgium, the pilots must report their departure at the last lock which they encounter.
  • The same applies to inland pleasure boats which enter Belgium via the Belgian inland shipping network or leave in this way.
  • Foreign pleasure boats which have matriculated in their country of origin are exempt from the Belgian matriculation plate.
  • The pilots of foreign pleasure boats must be in possession of the shipping documents which are required by their country of origin.
  • Foreign high-speed pleasure boats must display their national flag and state the name of their country of origin on the front bow.
